1. Acrylic backboards — clarity, light halo, lightweight branding

We primarily use cast acrylic (PMMA)​ rather than extruded sheet. Cast acrylic gives better dimensional stability, stronger UV resistance and cleaner optical performance, which matters for signs that must keep their color indoors and in protected outdoor locations.

2. Metal backboards — strength, large format, industrial architecture

For large facade letters, outdoor channel-style branding, high-wind locations and industrial interiors, we use metal substrates.

Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP)

ACP gives rigid large-format support at relatively low weight. It is suitable for building outlines, shopping-mall branding, hotel exterior accents and big corporate logos where a pure acrylic sheet would be too heavy or too flexible.

Stainless steel

Used when the project needs maximum strength, corrosion resistance or a raw industrial finish—luxury bars, speakeasies, rooftop signage, coastal projects, architectural installations. Brushed, mirror or powder-coated finishes are available.

3. Precision cutting — from vector file to finished backplate

Every Vasten backboard is cut from the approved digital artwork. The goal is simple: the neon flex path, the cut edge and the mounting holes must align perfectly.

CNC laser cutting — acrylic and thin metal

A computer-guided laser follows the vector path and produces smooth, accurate edges. For acrylic, laser cutting can create a polished, flame-like edge that reduces secondary finishing. It is ideal for intricate logos, fine fonts, small icons and contour-cut shapes.

CNC routing — thicker acrylic, ACP and grooves

For thicker sheets or special structures, CNC routing physically mills the material. We use routing to create recessed channels for silicone neon flex, layered backplates, step profiles and 3D effects. Routed grooves keep the flex at a consistent depth, which improves uniform glow and reduces shadows.

Fiber laser cutting — stainless and metal detail

For stainless steel and other metals, fiber laser cutting delivers clean, burr-free edges with minimal heat distortion. This is critical for cutout metal backplates where the neon must sit exactly inside the laser-cut letter path.

4K CNC path planning for neon grooves

For seamless illumination, we do not only cut the outer shape. We program dedicated neon channels in the backplate, calculate light-overlap zones and match the flex bend radius to the groove. Combined with 1 cm precision-cut silicone strip marks and co-extruded silicone diffusers, this helps eliminate “dark gaps” at corners and joints.

4. How the backboard and neon are assembled

  • Artwork check​ — AI/EPS/PDF/PNG reviewed for font height, stroke width, minimum bend radius and cutout feasibility.
  • Material selection​ — cast acrylic for lightweight/indoor/premium-clear; ACP for large outdoor; stainless for industrial/weather-critical.
  • Cutting​ — laser for fine acrylic/thin metal, router for thick/acrylic/ACP grooves, fiber laser for stainless cutouts.
  • Edge and surface treatment​ — laser-polish acrylic edges, deburr metal, chamfer if required, apply brush/mirror/powder/anti-fingerprint finish.
  • Groove and hardware​ — mill neon channels, pre-drill mounting holes, add hidden cable routes for clean install.
  • Neon mounting​ — hand-bend silicone/low-voltage flex into the groove, fix with clips/adhesive per environment, solder or connect with sealed accessories.
  • QC and burn-in​ — alignment check, brightness uniformity, waterproof joint sealing for IP-rated signs, aging test before packing.
